Good news on the green front

In 2019, TTS made an important choice: to invest in offsetting. This resulted in a long-term programme to fully absorb the emissions associated with the production of Magic trolleys, while safeguarding our environmental heritage. Preserving ecosystems, protecting biodiversity, but also safeguarding the work of local communities: these are the objectives of the projects selected and supported by TTS with the aim of enhancing endangered territories, from Italian woods to Brazilian forests. The time has now come to draw conclusions and see the steps taken in this direction.

Ralser, in Italy's northernmost region

Ralser is a centuries-old forest in South Tyrol that was mercilessly hit by Cyclone Vaia and was in a state of neglect. The work involved 55 hectares, comprising various forest improvement activities including cleaning up the forest to facilitate its regeneration and prevent the risk of fire, landslides and avalanches, resurfacing abandoned paths making them usable again, and upgrading forest roads to ensure safe travel.

The recovery project has restored the natural balance of this green lung, offsetting the CO₂ emissions of 9700 cars and neutralising the PM10 equivalent of the passage of around half a million cars and lorries.

Bailique, one step away from the world's longest river

Bailique is a remote archipelago developed close to the Amazon River, threatened by progressive soil erosion, illegal logging and fires in recent years. Interventions here are aimed at preserving the native forest, supporting the population committed to caring for the land and its fruits.

TTS has chosen to be part of this important project by supporting the Amazonbai cooperative in forest management according to FSC® standards. The actions implemented include combating uncontrolled deforestation, maintaining buffer zones along watercourses, facilitating the natural renewal of the forest and enriching certain areas to ensure maximum biodiversity.

Belvedere, in the metropolitan city of Venice

Belvedere is an urban forest created with the aim of limiting the greenhouse effect and promoting the reforestation of the area, giving citizens a green area in which to venture among oaks and hornbeams.

The 18 hectares of tree cover have benefited from a series of interventions aimed at improving its condition, including securing the area by cleaning the woods and arranging the perimeter by pruning the shrubs. In addition, a dual-language information board was installed to raise awareness of the forest and encourage its use.

Oglio South Park, the new project

This year, TTS has chosen to support a new responsible environmental management project that will restore the river landscape of the Oglio South Park, which stretches some 70 km. The planned measures aim to improve the area by planting trees and reconstructing a continuity of vegetation along the banks of the Oglio River, thus preserving one of the few remaining wetlands in the Po Valley.
